G/F Hong Kong and Macau Tips?

Gung Hay Fat Choy or Happy Chinese New Year!

Toby and I are off to Hong Kong and Macau in Feb and while we are both kind of familar with the vegetarian restaurants in Hong Kong. This will be my first time going to Hong Kong and eating gluten free.

I have to admit I'm a little nervous about my eating options since coeliac disease really is a foreign concept and wheat is in soy sauce and most Chinese sauces.

Does anyone know of any gluten free friendly options in either place?

  1. Life Cafe has a wide range of gluten-free options - bookings advised. Donwnstairs is a little take-out deli with salads and g-fre and vegan cakes. www.lifecafe.com.hk Its in Soho, on the escalators.

We also ate at a couple of Indian places in Kowloon. Branto Pure Vegetarian is not an aesthetic dream but the dosas were pretty good. It is upstairs so look out for the sign - it is just a few doors away from Swindon books and an easy walk if you go to the museum of art. Opposite it is Marks and Spencers which has fairtrade vegan chocolate!

There were plenty of juices/smoothies and nuts. As we live in China we weren't so worried about eating Chinese food - the gluten in vegetarian dishes plus soy sauce plus stock issues does make it a bit of a minefield!
